I know two people who've bought one in the last week. It all depends on when you click and how often you monitor the site. Think of it as an eBay auction about to end, you have to keep refreshing over and over. Eventually you'll get one, or at least the PERSISTENT will eventually get one.

Meh, if thats the case then its not worth it to me. I dont have the time to monitor it as much as is probably needed.

There's still a certain "life" outside of Con that could make it fun. Up to you.

I just got word that the screen-used Ectomobile will be inside of Con at the Mattel booth.

Mine will be parked out on the street so if any of you see me by this, come say hi. Almost done building it, should be ready by Con.

Ooohh!! That's SOOOooo groovy! Does it make that whining siren noise too? That would be a real attention-grabber, hahaha!

Come on.... This is "me" we're talkin' about here. Of course it makes the Ecto siren sound. I have it all programmed onto a PIC chip. I have lights, siren, 4 cameras, a laptop with WWAN broadband, the guns in the roof are on a remote and can be moved by either the console or the remote in my pocket and everything on the rack is driven by linear actuators. In other words, I flip a switch and the entire roof rack tucks down into the box for easy access into parking garages or under low bridges.

The funny thing is, that's about half the features I built into the car. There's more.

Oh, and Eric deserves credit too. He removed the standard distributor cap and replaced it with some kind of weird linear induction thing with magnets. He and I also installed a battery isolater and replaced the 12v generator with a 120-amp alternator. We've replaced so much of the engine that it's barely a '59 390-ci anymore, but I can guarantee that it's reliable.

One of these days we intend to fix the brakes.

....and the horn.

That's so cool...and officially the reason I'm kinda bummed I won't even be anywhere near Comic Con this year :( (That's RIGHT everyone else, you were out-loved by the Ecto-I!)

Thanks all. It's been a long road. I've never taken 5 years to build a costume but this would be a reasonably understandable exception. ( And I am NEVER going through this CR*P again! )

I bought a 1960 about 5 years ago and our work on it didn't go so well. Then Eric and myself bought a '59 which was more accurate and saving THAT turned out to be a bit easier. We're still looking at about $60k being dumped into the effort from start to finish.

Here's a shot from last Thursday when the '60 was FINALLY getting hauled away by the guy who bought it from me 2 months ago. Good bye, and good riddance.

The reason the car door is open is because I've got a few more days until Con and I'm still building a lot of it. The interior was a flat, floored hearse. I'm installing seats and a floor area right now.

I helped my buddy Sean to build his Ecto this past year. We finished within minutes of his deadline which was to go meet Dan Aykroyd and have him sign his car. Sean's car was supposed to go to Comic-Con and be used in the Mattel booth as part of their Hot Wheels display. Unfortunately Sean is more of a specialist in building props and less at making a running car. His engine block cracked from poor maintenance.

Mattel/Hot Wheels will still have an Ecto at 'Con but it will be the actual screen-used one now. It doesn't drive very well so it has to be trucked down. Still, I'm very happy for them.

My car will be used outside of Con to promote Diamond Select toys.

....ah, who am I kidding? I'm gonna grab some drinks, curl up inside and take a nap. I'm working around the clock and I'm tired. By Con I just won't care about "Can I get a picture?" and all that other cr*p.

Knock on the window if you see me there, I'll let you in. ....but f*** everyone else.

Yeah, I find that to typically be the problem with Comic Con cosplay  By the time you're finished with your costumes you're too tired to deal with people talking about it and wanting pictures, and god forbid you have the energy left to enjoy the convention itself!

And Bryan, you're not going to go through it ever againg??! But...what about....the Delorean!?

Odd you should ask.... I helped build that 2 years ago. No joke.

Here's me, Eric and Sean giving Ernie Hudson a proton pack that we built for him. See what's in the background behind him? Notice the flux bands on the front of the car?

Here's the completed car in my driveway about a month ago.

It's Sean and J's car but everyone had their hands in it at one point. J might be bringing this time machine to Con this year.

BTW, I love the pic you posted. That's a fan-built time machine replica in front of the Gamble House, a location in Pasadena that was used as Doc Brown's house. Been there many times; it's a museum now.

:( Sorry, that was probably a longer answer than anyone wanted but yeah.... I've been there and done that too.
